Well here we are almost one month down in 2013 ! A new year is upon us and we are compelled to contemplate the goals and dreams we have set for the next 336 days. I have thought long and hard about how I would like to approach the new year without driving myself crazy. I mean I’m totally over the whole self sabotaging dissection of all that needs to change immediately in my life. So this year instead of placing demanding expectations of miraculous changes on myself, I’ve decided to focus on acceptance. That’s it,nothing more nothing less, just appreciating where I am and the process that has gotten me here. This year I want to urge all of my burgeoning naturalistas to do the same . One of the hardest parts of transitioning from chemical to natural is accepting what the raw, natural state of your hair really is. It can be quite stressful realizing after about three or four months out into your natural hair journey exactly what your DNA is made of. The romance at this point has either just began or regretfully fizzled. You are now faced with the reality that there may not be a magic product potion that is going to get you to the Shangri-La of kinky curly perfection. I urge you as you stand in the mirror at 2am questioning your decision as well as your sanity to remember to have patience and ACCEPT all that you are fearfully and wonderfully made of and the natural beauty that looks back at you in the mirror….And then once you do give Natural Roots Hair Care a call and let us help you through the rest… Xoxo Darcel

Here are some transitioning and protective hairstyles that are hot right now :

There is something to be said about the unique bond between people. That special something that is formed when kindred spirits identify what is comforting and familiar between each other. Sharing things that transcend the loneliness of an unforgiving world can bring a deep comfort. It’s an unconditional experience that doesn’t rely on variables like time, distance, and even DNA. Once you have proclaimed and recognized who and what is important to you, it allows you to have a solid point of reference. It is definitely a basic human instinct to belong. A gut busting laugh, or a soul touching cry can often be the beginning of a lifelong bond. No judgement, no expectation just LOVE. At Natural Roots Hair Care we share this bond with all of our clients. We may be a Motley Crüe of all ages races genders but we are definitely a FAMILY ….
When you have decided to take the plunge and “Go Natural” you may find yourself looking for a new family of sorts. For some its not that deep , for some you may be surprised about how much social and cultural implication surrounds your new decision. It’s hard to believe that as progressive as we may consider ourselves we can be quickly reminded how far we have yet to go in our self acceptance. When you walk into your traditional salon and someone slips a little slick comment it can send you reeling you back to that first hair hurt. You are back feeling like that young little girl hot in the face, dazed, hurt and confused because you were the subject of a rude comment often given by one of your closest loved ones. No one has the power to hurt you like your kin … You know those same hurtful inadvertent jabs that had you running for the first jar of creamy crack you could find. For me it was age 3 Dark n Lovely smh ( I forgive my mom she really didn’t know better) . Well here we are at Natural Roots Hair Care inc. ready to help you rewrite the story. Loving that kinky hair and all it’s Glory ! Welcome to OUR family where care begins at the ROOTS… XOXO Darcel

After decades of bad perms and terrible edge eating weaves….It seemed like the time would never get here when finally, everyone wants to “Go Natural” …. What does this mean for the professional woman in the coporate spotlight? How does this “natural thing” work for the young high school student who is just developing her precious self image? And how does this natural hair fad develop into a sustainable lifestyle for the average woman of color, who hasn’t seen her natural texture since the first grade?

You’ve probably ran some of these questions past your traditional hair stylist and been met with a blank stare or been given a fleeting nod of encouragement while she/he pulls out the bucket of relaxer and proceeds to lovingly burn your scalp. You may have begun your journey on the Internet and been flooded with seemingly fanatical and dogmatic naturalist who insist their way is the Gospel according to Jesus’s first loc of hair like wool.

Or, you may have secretly coveted that fierce natural hairstyle you see on that woman that works in your building or who lives a few doors down. She is poised and confident with a laid back effortless beauty, and yet girlfriends hair is always “on point”. Her twist and twist outs are near perfection. Her protective hairstyles are funky yet put together.

You assume she travels miles to Brooklyn or Manattan to have her hair done….but of course she doesn’t. She is however a faithful client of Natural Roots Hair Care Inc. You have questions, we have answers. We are here as your experienced natural hair professionals.

In business since 2002, we have seen the trends come and go yet we have been here all along. Offering you a relaxed family based salon that can meet your needs. From transitioning to protective styles, locs and up-do’s , braids, cornrows and more for men women and children come on in and join us.

Welcome to our family where care begins at the Roots!
